In case that photo of Lola didn’t totally give it away, we’re having a baby!

The little peanut I’ve been referring to as BabyWK  (heheh) is due into this world January 9th, 2015
Here’s a photo from the ultrasound I had at 8 weeks:8weekUS

I have to admit, I’m pretty stoked about the whole thing. I mean, that’s not to say that my first reaction wasn’t “FML are you fucking kidding me right now!?” but that only lasted for like a week. I don’t know if it’s hormones or I’ve gone completely insane, but I’m happy to say I’m pretty darn happy about this new development in our lives. The irony of the many conversations I’ve had with friends about how we could “maybe not have any kids and that would be fine”, over the past few months is not lost on me.

I could name off a million other reasons we would’ve come up with to put off starting a less furry portion of our family, but they all seem kind of silly now. If anyone has ever seen Dan interact with a kid, you know he’s going to be the most awesome Dad ever. I’m also pretty damn excited that my little sister is going to have her first sometime in the next month or less and there will be cousins! City cousins and country cousins. Hopefully it will be as fun as it was when I was growing up, taking trips out to the farm to hang with my cousins. And now I’m getting all emotional and crap (thanks hormones) so I’m just going to put a stop to that and thank my Mother for her good grace to pass along this thing that happened to her where she didn’t really get much morning sickness (which I always assumed would nail me because of my pathetically weak stomach) and making my life just that much easier. Thanks, Mom! I may be tired as hell, but I ain’t barfing and that’s something.

A few random thoughts:

Did you know that the worst super power ever is Super Smell? Because it totally is the worst super power ever. You can’t shut it off! Pregnant ladies should get awesome super powers like Super Energy so they can go about their normal business without constantly looking for a place to take a nap.

Oh, and remember when I wasn’t drinking at my own 30th birthday party because I was “on antibiotics” ? Hahaha, suckers! Like that would stop me on my birthday! But seriously, thanks for all the cake and baked goods.  They were delicious and made me so happy. :)

One last thing. Because I KNOW some of you want to ask. The answer is NO, we are not getting married. Maybe we will someday. Who knows?! We are blissfully domestically partnered and that’s good enough for us.  And really, the only people it needs to be good enough for is Dan and Me, since it’s our relationship and not anyone else’s.  If you have any other questions about the subject you feel are really necessary, feel free to message me privately and I will copy/paste the previous sentences into a response for you. It will look something like this:

Anyways, WHEW!! It was TORTURE keeping that a secret for so long! Family and friends who I confided in prior to this announcement, the beans have officially been spilled. You can talk about it now! Yay! And good job on keeping your flappy mouths shut for so long, I knew you could do it 😉

xoxo,
Nicole
